Michael Christner opened Dojo Gelato on August 1, 2009, fulfilling a lifelong desire to create his own independent ice cream shop where focus was placed on freshness and quality, not quantity. When he and his wife Kimberly moved to Cincinnati from Austin, he decided it was time to put his dream into action. Michael studied classic gelato techniques with Italian pastry masters in New York City, as well as attended Penn State's legendary Ice Cream Short Course at the Berkey Creamery, and he continues to perfect his craft everyday at Dojo's Findlay Market location.
Dojo is known for its authentic gelati, creative flavors, and dedication to providing guests with unique ice cream and coffee experiences. We create authentic Italian-style ice creams and sorbetti in our shop every day. We even went the extra couple thousand miles to import our gelato batch freezers from Bologna, Italy.
We use fresh ingredients, including growth-hormone-free milk from Ohio and, whenever possible, produce from local farmers. We never use any artificial flavorings or extracts in the creation of our gelati.
We know. Why the Japanese name but Italian-style ice creams? Dojo means "training place" in Japanese. At Dojo Gelato, we practice the art of gelato every day-with the goal of bringing you the most delicious and freshest ice creams possible. We are always in the pursuit of perfection, be it the perfect flavor of gelati or the most amazing espresso drinks you've ever experienced.
Every day, we create 12 rotating flavors of gelati from scratch, in small batches, using a slow and traditional process.
Our gelati and sorbetti rotate on a weekly basis to optimize the peak of freshness and flavor of our premium ingredients, like Mexican vanilla beans, chocolate from Belgium, and Dojo's house-made salty caramel.
Our sorbetti are made with fresh fruits (not imitation extracts) and do not contain any dairy ingredients, so our vegan and lactose-intolerant friends can enjoy them.

We love creating coffee drinks as much as we love making gelato–perhaps even a little more. Much like our Italian-made gelato freezers, our La Marzocco espresso machine is the best in its class. We pride ourselves at Dojo on being a part of the "third wave" of coffee.
We understand that on the other end of our delicious espresso and coffee beverages are farmers who spend as much time tending and cultivating their coffee beans for the height of perfection as we do in making our gelati. We honor their dedication with the crafted coffee drinks we create at Dojo. Drip coffee, pour over, espresso or latte? No worries. We have you covered.
And the best part? Our coffees are locally roasted by Deeper Roots Development here in Cincinnati.
Dojo loves a party. Small-batch gelato is available for your next event, by the pan or with our gelato cart.
Five guests or 1000 guests? No problem. We would be happy to be a part of your shower, wedding, birthday, anniversary, graduation, bar/bat mitzvah, office or 'just -because' celebration.
